Different.
« on: May 20, 2011, 07:40:39 am »
Got given one of those Chinese chopper thingys. ::)
It had been to a car mechanic and he gave up.

Anyhow I have finally got it back together and it won,t start , no fuel on plug.
Lucky I wasn,t happy with the way the throttle cable went to the carby as it seemed to come in from the wrong side putting a bad bend in the cable.
These carbs are symmetrical but for one little hole for the fuel pump.
Guess what they had done. :o
Throttle cable now comes in nicely and the engine starts easily. :)
Ya have gotta keep your eyes open as they,ll do anything to test your sanity and mine,s not that good cause i,me old. :)

The most 'different' thing I remember was a little 2/ Quad bike came into my workshop 'no start'.
I decided it was flooded so I removed the air filter, and having previously seen two-ees flooded  from fuel taps dripping through, I disconnected the fuel line from the carby [it WAS dripping] and kicked it over on full throttle 'till it started,
Low and behold this thing started!
But wait, there's more!, raw petrol was pouring out of the end of the exhaust as it was running! I REVVED IT AND RAW FUEL CONTINUED TO POUR OUT THE PIPE! Then I closed the throttle and it idled!, still pumping raw petrol.
Before the thing got too hot I thought better stop it before it becomes a near nuclear event. I removed the plug and turned the thing r sup and drained the fuel out of the crankase. Fixed the tap and suggested that the owner remove the fuel or the fuel line if it was to stand around unused.
Now how many times have we seen bikes that won't run cause they're to rich.   Don't ever think you've seen everything! cheers pancho.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

Those Chinese push bike motors [ as talked about on another thread ] come with an interesting carby.
It looks like a real carb but if you have a closer look you,ll find that there,s NO idle circuit at all. :o
Put this carb on a 2/st with no reed valve and the fun starts.
The thing is ideling on the needle valve and starts to spit fuel back into the airfilter.
The longer it idles the more this happens until it stops.
They run richer and richer and in the end the only way to restart them is to ring out the air filter.
Took me a while to discover this.
Not impressed.
