MMCC had a great turn out to yesterday's practice. Nice to see lots of new and old taking part. Oil tracks rule, we got 7 rounds of 5 lappers in before 3pm including an hour lunch break and a late start. I'll post picks on the website soon.

the beauty of oil tracks, we used 2 do that in canberra also, when we were oil, now its only 4 rds, 4.5 laps, with granite, and mega amount maintenance,

For mine, as far as the oiled tracks go and how good they are seem's to depend on the surface that they start with. When the surface for what ever reason turns it into a road race........we'll it's just a road race. Porcupine, Nemingah, and Greenhills are a few of the best oiled tracks I have ridden on and they are/were black soil. Not sure of the Griffith surface as I have not ridden their but from the sounds of things it sounds like it lends itself to the oil treatment as well. There are probably more that I dont know about than those that I do.
Elsie may be right on his take on the deco surface at Canberra but I reckon it is one of the best prepared surfaces I have ridden on. Track design/layout probably has a lot to do with it (and Canberra is a goodie) from a riders perspective as well.
Keen to hear the thoughts of others on this topic.

You're right Col, at one point good old Nepean became a road.
For time management if we can come up with an oil recipe that could satisfy both the local council and the "watermelon's" ( Greens ), we'd all be happy.
You've only got to look back to Griffith just last year to see how good things can be.

Action Park was once a road thanks to the motard guru's. But it ain't no more! At the end of the day the inside line grooves up but having said that it's 10 meters wide 800 meters long so there is plenty of other fruitful lines to be had even late in the day.

Well, there is no doubt that Action Park could be a road back in the 80s. I remember riding a 3 Hour on an RM500 and riding round the sweeper feet up, knee out and hanging off roadrace style just for the buzz of passing guys who were sticking their legs out... I think I prefer Canberra as it is now to how that was.
