Rear Suspension Rebuilds

Hey Guys,
I have discovered my beloved CR 250's rear shock need some attention. it much resembles my pogo stick in the shed!

Should i rebuild? and if so, who is the best person for the job? or should i purchase a new shock? if so, who manufactures them? (Not Ohllins or WP- there not really in my price bracket) do FOX  make a shock for the 80's bikes, who do i contact to get my hands on one? i could not find anything on their website.

i have done numerous searches on Google, but i have had no luck:(

If the shaft is good, then a rebuild is cheap and easy. About $70 for a seal head, and ~$120 for oil, gas and labour (depending on who you use).
Its actually quite an easy DIY job if you're keen, but you'll need to find a friendly bike shop to regas for you.

YSS can make you a new one. I think the going rate is about $1000 for an all-new shock.

Yeah, not really keen on performing the repair myself, as i don't have the correct facilities in place to make finish the job, but thanks for the advice Nathan:) i might give Nick a call and see what they think.

Gazzi's seem the best value at the moment I have two sets and love them.

i have looked at the GAZI web site and they only have twin shock, mine is a single shock.

Rebuild yours, you can buy new seal heads for them or search Ebay for a Ohlins or White Power, they are out there and better than a Fox.

yer Ohlins and WP are better than FOX but FOX is still better than stock.

What year is the bike? FOX stopped making MX shocks around 83 I think. Early prolinks are very limited for tuning and wear out the bodies.

The 1985 Fox catalogue still lists Twin Clicker monos for MX bikes so they must of been still making them then. Thats the latest catalogue i have. Fox still make shocks for ATV's and Snowmobiles so if you really wanted one im sure they could probably make one for you, but Ohlins or WP would probably be easier.

bike is an 85 model, im not going to put a WP or Ohlins in it, its just not worth it.

If i cant get an after market shock at a decent price i will have to look at re-building the original shock, it was a chore i really didn't want to do as i thought by 2011 we would have more on offer in the market place than just WP an Ohlins.

i will check out Works Performance, but last time i saw their prices (Late 90'S) they were ridiculously prices aswell.

Well it sounds like rebuilding the stocker is the best option for you then.
