Who'd of thought he'd give the Maicos up as a bad joke and do a real comedy act on Seinfeld all those years later.

firko whats the story on this bike...i know for a fact yamaha bought rights to tilkiens single shock design till i think 1980-81..so this must be just a proto-type or some sort...still it looks super trick..and probably worth a lot of $$moola... ???

Here's a '73 400 Kramer Maico. Below is a link to a piece on Kramers by Vic Krause borowed from Off-Road .com. The difference to the Tilkens design is that Kramer (and Cheney) used twin shocks a'la Vincent. http://dirtbike.off-road.com/dirtbike/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=304480

...like a Yammy? No, it's not leaking any oil ;D ;D. BTE these were TWIN SHOCK cantilever suspensions. In retrospect, not a good system but seemed like it at the time.

Hey Guys,
I am just putting together VMX Issue 33 as we speak and there will be a great article on Kramer and his bikes, complete with a background story from their original works rider. I have just finished reading it and it is one of the best articles we have had for a while. Really interesting stuff.
Its about 3 or 4 weeks from delivery, look forward to it.

Hoony,
Let's see: Kawasaki KX250 BI resto, Firkos Montessa 250 LaCrosse [one of his best stories I must say], Maico 501 Resto, Johnny 'O replica Mugen, Plastic fuel tank resto tips, Hannah OW40, finally the YZ250F/G story, events from Linkoping MX and Bergamo Enduro. CZ125 resto, Ossa Phantom resto, Roger Harveys take on Evel, Rolf Witthoeft [the crazy german on the big twin KLXes and BMWs - really interesting guy, makes me feel like I've done nothing in life] and heaps of other stuff.

I think that is quite enough for one issue.
