With the new quarter mile short track class being introduced to run at Nepean and elsewhere, bikes like this will finally have a place to race. This neat little Trackmaster will fit right in to the proposed classic division. My new Hindall RT1 looks a lot like this. http://vft.org/vftforsale2.html

Pretty good shape. Nice glass. Could use a top end. Rear handbrake.

Hate the rear glass but like those earlier tanks  ( both mine are the coffin ones......) Not sure that the corrcet motor for that frame either.
Late model frame, well swing arm at least is.  not sure what the tripples are, but the wheel etc look in good nick.
under $2k would be a good buy.

I'm the opposite...I like the tail, it's the same as my Matcho Mick version. I've got one of these tanks I don't care for it on the Yamaha, it looks alright on the bigger Benelli though. I'm using a Knight style tank which blends in nicely with the seat/tail. The triples are double pinch bolt OSSA Betor, Ceriani forks.
Here's another few. Tom Horton seems to be clearing the shed of a few leftovers. All nice stuff.

I've always wondered,would these kind of frames be good for MX after you'd put brakes on the front or is the geometry all wrong?They look good though.

I would say Yes. It would take a bit of fiddling, different fork/fork springs etc and a bit of 'set up' but I would say the would be a great starting point. Why, what are you thinking ;D.

wanna swap your bread box for a coffin ?  mine good, in original period paint and i have just relined it ready for funny fuel.

But i still wanna make mine into a pre70 neil keen copy i got enough pre 75 glass

The steering rake is too steep but you can get around it. I converted my Champion Honda tracker to MX but had to use leading axle Maico forks to get the rake out a bit and I got a proper ChampionMX swingarm which is 25mm longer.

Nope...I've just spent a fortune buying the paint to do the tank and seat as well it being made from ethanol proof 'glass. Plus I like it. ;D

That VFT web site has some great bikes. Its amazing the lengths they go to make dirt track bikes in the usa. From pw50's to SR500's!!! And the price of 2nd had bikes is so cheap damn.

Well MX250,I've seen a few good ones come up in US recently and thought that would look nice in my shed,but I haven't tried Dirttrack and am a very ordinary MX rider.Maybe I should try it !You still need a front brake here though correct???

Shortshifter, 2 brakes required these days. mmcc club day #1 this sunday @ action park (maryborough), come and have a go, slap a trials on the rear and your in.

Paul, here's a good example of the difference between a Champion with MX geometry and a proper dirt tracker. Note steeper steering rake on the black/white tracker.




While I've got these piccies up I thought it'd be the right time to show a cheap way of building one of these cool bikes. The above two bikes are built around stock frames, saving the major cost of using an aftermarket unit. The Yamaha 360 is a especially nicely done conversion with the frame deraked to 25-26 degrees and using Honda alloy "mag" wheels which are especially light. This bike could be put together really cheaply by anyone half handy with a hacksaw, portapower and TIG, MIG or oxy welder. If you're uncertain about cutting up a good MX frame, the same result can be acheived using an old DT 250/360/400 twin shocker. The aftermarket 'glass tank and seat can be purchased from a number of sources including our own Matcho Mick.

The other bike is a 350 Kawasaki Bighorn that had been converted back in the day using a rare factory flat track conversion kit. The results acheived are the same as the Yamaha. My TM/TS VMX project bike is soon to undergo a similar rebirth. This forums 'Yamaico' took us through a step by step build on his 465 Yamaha flat tracker a year or two ago. This will get you in the mood shorty (and you'll need a front brake for DT - there is generally one ''stop go corner requiring hard braking, and there is always a left and right corner (unlike the yanks).
