Dry Ice blasting
« on: March 04, 2011, 05:30:27 pm »
Anybody tried this blasting medium or just want to comment.!!

Dry Ice Cleaning is a non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-abrasive, non-static and non-explosive cleaning medium. As a cleaning method, Dry Ice Blasting uses revolutionary technology being introduced into the Australian market.

The cleaning process is similar to sand or water pressure blasting methods. Ice pellets are blasted at high speeds using compressed air to clean the surface required. The results are instant; the ice pellets melt on impact and leave no residue. The versatility of the unit means we can get into all sorts of difficult areas to clean.

Dry Ice Cleaning means less costs as it uses minimal staffing, saving thousands in time and money.
Best is in the West !!

Cleaning parts while you guzzle "Dry Ice Lager" not bad ;)
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Its used in applications where you dont want abrasive blast media contaminating anything.  Quite hazardous inside confined spaces as CO2 pellets (dry ice) isnt friendly to breathe :o Don't see any benefits for restorations really. Soda is probably cheaper.

I have seen the Dry Ice blasting used to clean & de-rust components in an U/G LPG tank turret.
Quite effective and very safe in a 'live' hazardous location.

The trickest part is the only Mess to clean-up is the rust, dirt and old paint that's been removed.
