building better T100 pre unit
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:58:01 pm »
Been thinking about my pre unit 500 and  have been having nightmares about broken rods sawing the cases in half. Any thoughts on how to build one that won't.

It is all alloy top end 56 motor and has later crank with bolt on webs. I am thinking crack test the crank and steel rods and decent pistons.

Take it from me, install new rods on rebuild, no if's or but's.

Yep, I reckon the rod exiting from Mikes Trumpy Metisse was enough to convince me that old alloy rods are a mobile time bomb. I'd suggest Carillo rods as the first bit of expenditure Marc.....I'm fitting them to my upcoming 500 T100SC Triumph project.

Yes I still have the pictures of Mikes shredded cases as inspiration  ::), at the moment I have the 2 piece crank as opposed to the 3 piece crank and would prefer to keep it that way. Game plan to date is to crack test and overhaul crank, fit steel rods and good quality pistons. Not really much inside a pre unit.

Price of the extruded rods is good, wonder how they perform against stock ..... looks like T120 rod will fit 56 engine.
