RM125 Seats - advice needed urgently
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:04:24 pm »
Any gurus who can confirm whether the 76-77 RM125 seat will fit the 75 M model? The part numbers are the same on Alpha Sports, but I was sure that the M/S seats were a little different to the A/B/C ones. There's a 76 or 77 seat on eBay I might try to grab as my seat has broken off its front mount. But need to confirm it'll fir first.

My understanding of this topic was that the RM125 S/M used the same seat as the TM (steel) but I can confirm that the 76-78 RM125 seats will fit the frame but that new rear mount plates are needed as the base kicks up slightly towards the back. I have a 77 base that needs new rear mounting plates (pretty easy to make) but still has the front mount and I know it fits the TM frame.

I don't think the TM seat fits the RM. I tried it the other day and the TM seat is a different length (or more exactly the rear tabs are in slightly different positions). Yet they look identical. If the 76-78 fits tho, I'll see if I can track one down. Need one real soon as the season starts in a few weeks!

Dodgee, what's your veiw on this. I know the RM125B/C seat bolts straight up to my TM but it leaves a gap between the rear guard and seat base.

Graeme, at worst you'll have this gap and you may need to make a couple of simple brackets to relocate the holes. PE seats are shorter than RM so forget those  ;)

late edit..I'm a fickhead!! I have both sitting in the garage so I'll slip down and try some mixing and matching..back soon  ::)

the RM125B/C seat is a perfect fit  ;) I don't have an A seat but assume them to be the same also as the frame I am running on my 125A/B is actually an A frame, the seat is from my C and the bike I tried it on was an S which is the same as M. The 400 seat fits my 125 both A and C. Near inclined to say I'm 100% sure but I never commit to such certainties :P You could use a 250 370 or 400C seat also but it may look a little odd if it's got RM370 plastered over it :)

Graeme, steel base or plastic? Either way it could probably be repaired pretty readily.

Thanks Chris. The part numbers show the TM and RM seats are different. I just went out to the shed and checked - the TM is wider at the rear tabs, and the tabs are slightly further back. So the TM seat is not a direct fit to the RM.

My RM seat is in generally good condition, but the front mount broke off from rust. I could get the mount welded back on of course, and buy a new cover and foam, but thought I'd see if I can track down another seat first.

Definitely sounds like the 76-78 RM seats fit. Are the later seats plastic or steel base? I assume steel if M/S/A/B/C are all the same part number.

Jimson, at this stage I will keep my seat as I may aim at getting it fixed if I can't find a replacement.

I reckon you'd be pretty lucky to find a steel base RM seat Graeme, all the ones here are plastic base including the S but it's probably a B/C seat anyway ;)

TM seat wont fit an RM properly and vice versa  :'(
RM M / S / A  seats all steel bases  ::) B / C bases plastic  but are all interchangable  although M & S foams are different ( with the rise to the others ) hope this helps Bill  :)
