Been lurking on this great site way too long and decided to finally register!
Raced motocross during it's hey days in South Africa from the mid 70's to the mid 80's, without too much success I might add!. Took a break to finish school and varsity. Then career and family commitments took over for a while.
Dabbled in the restoration and collection of vintage motor bikes for a while - have amongst others, a 1927 OEC with 500 ohv Jap motor, 1928 AJS V twin with side car, 1934 Velo, 1957 Horex Resident, 1957 NSU Supermax, 1957 Jawa 350 twin.
Messed around on a modern superbike and dabbled in Superbike schools until a huge crash (which I dont remember anything about) wrote the bike off. Missus decided then and there that motorcycles were created by Lucifer himself and insisted I sell it and by something slower (and presumebaley safer). Got myself a 300 Gas Gas and was also well and truely bitten bitten by the VMX bug with the nostalgia of the past and the bikes i raced and hankered after. Raced a fairly ratty 1982 Yamaha IT 175 (of all things and nicknamed The Maico Slayer!) for the first part of the VMX season in the Evo class and did okayish.
Hankered after more power and vowed to get hold of a 490 Maico which I did. Brought it as a basket case (Never again!) and after damaging my credit card severely ended up with a bike that should be far more competitive than its rider.
Expect to see me in the Maico, Suzuki and CZ forums way too often!
