Gday to all
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:29:41 pm »
Have been a bit of a lurker and decided to join, as this Forum is very interesting.

I used to race junior motocross here in South Australia at Munno Para from about 81ish to '83, then raced a 250 with the grown ups in '84. Around '85 I chucked it in, as I lost my job and the Gov just introduced the import tax on motorcycles. I think a KX250 was about $2499, and the following year getting near $4000 - if I remember right.

I look back now however, and wish I stuck with it as I had met a lot of good people and good memories of traveling.
Went to a training school at Mallala once and got to hang out with Rob Tywrould, Alex Stra and Andy Hayden, and learnt a fair bit. But basically I stunk as a rider and had a long way to go to .
I remember I raced at ACUSA Park for some event, and in the morning practise I was passed by Hayden, Caldecott and Vandenberg (Honda), like I was standing still. They got rocks on that track too and they hurt. But damn good fun.

The bikes I rode in the past were yz80D,F,J, yz100H,K, Kx80f1, YZ250L, KX250 '85 model and a RM500E.

Currently I am trying to fix up a Suzuki DR500 and an IT490 Yam that is a real shocker. Could post some pics later if anyone interested in a laugh.
I think I will make the IT into a YZ and use it for VMX? Plus I hate that Blue colour.  But I am not sure what to do with it yet. When I bought it, I started it up in the back yard and it practically vibrated to pieces in amongst a smoke haze.

Anyway, thats me.
Take it easy.

Welcome GT.
There are a lot of people preoccupied at this time.
I've got 3 DR500's, one that I race on dirt track, there are a few others as well, as for the IT, I'm not a 2 stroker.
Just don't take things too serious and you'll take a lot away from this forum.

Thanks for the Welcome Steve.

Yeah perhaps the Flood has slowed traffic a bit?

I  havent ridden the DR yet,  clutch is gone and trying to give it a bit of a makeover.

You must have a soft spot with them having 3.
Do they have enough power to loft the front wheel?
