No matter whose "fault" it is, it's an incredibly sad situation. Thirty years ago while backpacking in Mexico I just happened to be in the silver area of Taxco when a mining disaster occured in an underground silver mine. A lot of miners were killed and I well remember the sadness that overcame the town with people openly crying as they walked the streets. Businesses closed down while the whole town went into deep mourning. It was very contageous getting caught up in the grief of total strangers. I imagine the same sadness exists in Greymouth today.
