CR 500 1985 Mag water pump
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:47:15 pm »
Hi guys,

New to the forum I have aquired a 85 500 but I am still restoring my 84 500 and I want to put the 85 in storage for a while.

What do I do with the coolant drain it or leave it, I want to try and avoid the mag corrosion probs.

Thanks Hugo

Hey hugo,
I'm told that you should drain it completely. Another guy recently told me thet once it is dry you then fill the water pupm up with WD40 non aerosol...

Make sure you blow out the waterpump with compressed air. It only takes a couple of drops of water to start the corrosion.

No. I reckon flushing with clean water would be a good idea.

Not sure about wd and seal. Is that okay?

I use distilled water,,, coolant reacts with the magnesium & alloy. I drain the water out when I get home and blow out with air from the rad with the barrel & water pump drain plugs removed but if storing for long periods I remove the cover.
