could be 77 the 77 had a Black plastic headlight bucket and alloy tank but a pe175 only ever came with a plastic tank the first pe the 250b was the only one with an alloy tank the rest all were the same plastic.

I am going to pick up a pe250B now actually. ;)

does the tank have a white black or yellow plastic cap. :)

Comp plate says 79, but it has an alloy tank with a black cap, after i realised it was ali and in such good nick, i was going to steel it if it fitted on my pre70 ride........ 8)

THe guy at the time also sold me a complete 250 motor, seat , pipe and stuff so im gathering he had a 250 at some point also and thus maybe stuff migrated onto one bike ?

photo when i get home and find the camera. ::)

What month is on the compliance plate? If its got 79 written on it then it could be a 79 or 80 model depending on what month is was assembled on.

Steel or alloy swingarm?

The 250b tank fits on other pe's in the uk that is all they had the same alloy tank all years because of the road regs there.

If you want the aluminium tank to fit the T model 175 / 250 / 400 you have to alter the area around the steering stem as it needs to be deeper to allow the tank to move forward otherwise the seat doesn't fit properly I have one on my 175 T

From memory the trick with the alloy tank is to use the appropriate 'short' (steel base) seat, rather than the 'C'-on (RM style) plastic base.

the PE175C/N had the steel base.

Hi Luke, no doubt you are correct that in the Aus market, the PE175 C and Ns had A steel base, but I think we need to be careful before suggesting that this is THE, if that means, 'the only' steel base. The only bike to my knowledge that was sold in all markets with the alloy tank was the PE250B. This bike had a one year only steel base (whether this is also the same as the RM250A base is another question). Frosty is correct about the use of alloy tanks on later bikes in the UK. Much later bikes I think in Belgium also used them. These bikes obviously have a seat specific to them. All I am saying is that its wise to exercise a little caution when trying to find an alloy tank and seat combo, especially if these parts are missing from your bike and you have nothing to work from, hence my suggestion that if anyone is thinking about doing this they find a tank and 'appropriate' seat. I have acquired an unfortunately large collection of PE (and RM) B/C/N seats (metal and plastic), not least through trying to solve this particular puzzle myself (some with the 'help' of forum info), and only ONE of those works with ONE of my alloy tanks, suggesting that there might also be tank mounting point variations too, on both (US/UK) tanks and frames. All of my experience relates to 250s though tanks and seats are from 175s and 250s.

Take a look at the pics. it all seems to fit.

IF you like i can pull the tank off and the seat IICBF, and also take a photo of the frame mounts, incase this is a perplexing Suzuki problem that needs notation and noration for generations to come   :O)
