Back in the mid 90s i test rode a new WR 200 , we put it together at the shop and took it to an organised trail ride . The salesman took it out for a lap to run it in and then gave it to me . About 10 kms into the ride i was racing a mate on a kx 250 down a fire break , we came up on some slower riders so i saw my chance to gap him . I knocked it down a gear gassed it and pulled out to pass the wobblers , i was way over to the left of the track and just hooked top gear when out of nowhere was this firkin great hole
i tried to lift the front end but was tapped in top gear . The front wheel hit the far lip of the hole , forks bottomed but came out of the hole on the front wheel probably doing 80 KPH + down a tree lined fire break
According to my mate and the wobblers i went about 70/80 metres on the front wheel before i hit another hole and me and the WR parted company . By all accounts the WR then started bouncing pin ball style from tree to tree across the track
.
I was winded and had a bowel evacuation but not a mark on me even though i think it was the biggest dirt bike crash i have ever had
.The ole WR was absolutley fuct
litterally tore it apart . My mate doubled me back to the pits with the plastic WR head light ( remakably undamaged ) I gave the head lamp to Richard the salesman and said thanks but they dont handle to good in the rough
Poor bastard was beside himself , the shop owner was under the impression i should buy the bike ( what was left of it ) but i told him he was lucky i wasn't billing him for new under wear and riding pants
.
I bought a KDX 200 then a 220 then another 200 then an RMX 250 . The KDXs were great but i had gear box issues with the 220 and the 200s were a bit hard on rods . FMF fatty pipe and Pro cicuit mufflers , Boyssen Rad valves and a KX 125 front end ( no underhang like the KDX conventioal forks ) were the mods i ran . Raced them in MX , enduro, GNCC, Supercross and trail rode them
But the RMX 250 was a dream off the shop floor ( just rejetted it and away you go )
I have an 86 KDX 200 air cooled power valve for a pre 90 bike and it pulls like a 13 yr old boy
