The Septone cleaner will clean the rims if they are bare alloy. If they are annodized the cleaner wont do anything. To find out if its annodized or bare, use the continuity buzzer tester on your multimeter. Buzzes - then its bare, no buz then its annodized. Now the only thing is that the Septone stuff will make the spokes and nipples go black and horible and strip the plating (zinc) off pretty quickly so using this stuff is not a good idea on an assembled wheel. Also the Septone cleaner will run down between rim hole and spoke and get on the inside of the rim where it will continue to etch away at the rim under and around the nipple as well as corroding the nipples even if you try and wash it all off. So honestly the best and only way to properly do it is to de-lace the whole wheel so you have got the bare rim. I have tryed to do assembled engines with it and mask off some bolts etc but it never really works, you have to swap the bolts out for old ones you dont mind if the cleaner strips the/tarnishes the plating finish.
