montesa help
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:19:06 am »
I'm doing a piece for next issues VMX on the 1967 Montesa La Cross pictured below. Although I've got a fairly comprehensive piece down at present, I reckon there's more to the story. Information on these beauties is extremely thin to the ground and, wanting to do a good job I call on the Montesa experts out there to point me in the direction of any reviews, tests or anything really, relating to the '67 La Cross model.

Thanks for the help fella's. If anybody has any old '66 or 67 American magazines, could you check to see if there are any reviews or tests of the La Cross? My '66 and 67 mag collection is a tad light on. From '68 on I have a shitload of Montesa articles but nothing prior.

While researching I found this great photo taken at the 1965 Barcelona Motocross GP. Oriel Puig Bulto wheelies his type 11 Bully (1) while Pedro Pi (10) and Geman legend Fritz Betzelbacher(13) launch on Monty Impala Cross 175s (Presumably fitted with the factory 250 kit). Pi was a brilliant racer and engineer who designed the Montesa motocross bikes and raced them. Oriel Bulto is the son of the Bultaco founder Senor Francisco" Paco" Bulto. Betzelbacher was the first 250 European Champion in 1957 on a Maico. Prior to 1962 there was no 250 World Championship so the European Championship was considered the unofficial World title, the closest Maico ever got.
Current GP MotoGP rider Sete Gibernau is Senor Bultos grandson.

Firko,

I know it's not a La Cross, but have you ever read this Unscientific shootout?
