Phantom engine on Aussie ebay
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:42:38 am »
There's an Ossa Phantom engine on ebay (from David #46, Albrid etc etc) that doesn't, to me, appear to be a Phantom.  At least the cylinder doesn't appear to be from a Phantom, as I've never seen a Phantom cylinder where the spigot (for mounting the carb) is attached via a manifold.  The spigot is cast directly onto the cylinder on every Phantom I've ever seen. Dave?  Anyone else?

Regards

Ken

Agreed.

Also the barrel doesn't have the scolloped fins of the Phantom

looks like smaller stilletto barrell/head,(my early stillettos bolt on flange),phantom barrells way wider, see how it dosen't reach the outer covers,b/ends right but!, :P

OK, lets get this ossa engine cleared,  it was pointed out to me that the barrel and head wasn`t right, Drakey and l have all the engine and frame numbers  on these bikes, we have be checking it all out, l wasn`t going to sell this engine as l had ideas to build up a road racer, but its all to hard and l don`t have the time or the money to send on a project like that so it for sale, the bottom end is phantom the barrel and head is either pioneer or super pioneer, now this stiletto engine that l have could easly be used in a phantom frame if you had one, the Phantom engine has the same barrel and head as used on the stiletto. The barrel and head are much larger than the pioneer barrel and head. Please if you are not shore about something please call me. I was also told that the porting on a stiletto is the same as a phantom, l am lot sure if the stiletto is a 4 speed or 5 speed. But l have learnt that these engine are left and right gear change.cheers david

David quickest way to tell 4,or 5 speed is c/shaft bearing housing,5 speed bulges outward, ala your phantom ,4 speeds more or less flatter inboard, also generally 4 speeds 428 chain size,5's are 520,hth's,mick

I'm no ossa expert but phantom barrel is not same as Stilleto to my knowledge. Stiletto had smaller inlet (33mm vs 36mm) & I think bolt on carb rather than spigot cast into barrel. Have afeeling stiletto ran 15fin head whereas phantom is 17fin, but I could stand corrected
