PE175 Frame ID
« on: September 16, 2010, 12:15:43 PM »
Finally met Rod (Bahnsy)on the weekend (great bloke  ;) ) he kindly donated some PE175 bits to me and i kindly donated some RM125F bits to get his beast going.
Even though i'm still hunting an '81 PE175X for sentimental value...more mental  ::)
The frame i have is dated 7/78 PE175-105696....i say late "C"...correct?
C frames start at 100001   N frames start at 107290

Mine has the alloy swingarm which came out on the T and X...so i assume this has been fitted to the C-N frame.
Going by Alpha's part #'s C and N are the same frame.
Alpha also shows the correct "T" frame (bash plate)but incorrect "X"frame (shows T).....no frame loops

The buy now PE175X on Ebay....has a bash plate...my opinion is wrong.I think its a T.
The X has frame loops......so I'm still hunting a PE175X.
What do u reckon?

Ha ha Doc ;D
I started with i have a question....then deleted it because there was no question!
More on the frame being a late "C" model was what i was looking for..but i answered that myself !(old age)
And on that PE175X for sale being a T model.

The question is that there is no question!
Just verification  ;D
Did you end buying a...gulp...modern bike?
cheers...mario

Yes your frame is 78 C

Alloy swing arm - is it a suzuki one? It may be an RM swingarm or a PE swingarm or even could be an aftermarket trick one!

80 T model has bash plate but 81 models onwards dont.

So the bike advertised on ebay is a T not a X unless someone has made their own bash plate to go on the X frame (many do this)
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022

Hi Leith....looks like Suzuki s/arm....but good point could be RM....i measured 335mm between s/arm pivot to shock mount hole.
Has a nipple in pivot centre, and trying to Id the differences between the RM/PE arms with bolt holes brackets etc etc.
Just wasting time before going to work and having a play in the shed just to see what it is.
Always fun IDing a bitsa
cheers...mario

That one on ebay looks a genuine bash plate slim at the front where the loops should be.

remember with pe's they can be dated different like a 80 dated 81 model and etc so that can be confusing the best way to tell is via the bash plate or frame loops as you say I have a 175n that I could be interested in selling 175x are fairly common you should be able to find one. ;)

Hi Michael, yeah PE's get funny......but i know an X frame from a mile away like you do too.
I hardly see X's come up for sale apart from the last couple of weeks 1 or 2 maybe non runners.
But i'll keep an eye out for an X,because thats what i used to have/want.
I still have that PE175D to work on oneday....frame needs repairs, floater bushes etc etc....the exy bits :-\

I might get rid of the RM125T thats sitting in the shed with the 100 top end and crank.I still have the 125 topend but need to rebuild the crank or sell as it is......got some thinking to do!
cheers...mario

Mario, the bike on Evil bay is definately a T model and so is the motor .  Also beware Rm  125 N / T motors are different in engine cases.....most noticable is at rear engine mount where clutch cover srew is ...
79 is above &  80 is below.

I knew there was no question Mario..but an X will turn up ;)..usually as soon as you commit the finances to something else they'll be everywhere! ::)

As for the modern :-X..no I've not bought anything..matter of fact I think Ray (the extremely generous soul he and his Mrs be) has possibly lined up an '09 RM250 2 smoker for the next CQ adventure ;D interesting to see if the 2 smoker RM can sway me away from the green meanie 4 banger KXF250 which near instantly became my fav :P

Gotta pull me finger out and book it in for rec reg...and then i'll feel better.
Might also be on the lookout for a PE floater frame, but i'll see what i can do with what i have.
