TY250 airbox differences
« on: September 03, 2010, 05:46:43 pm »
What are the differences between the airbox fitted to the A model & the C,D,E models?
My C hasn't got a standard airbox fitted & I'd like to put a yamaha airbox back in it while the frame is being painted, I have access to an A model bike for parts which has it's airbox etc. If I replace the airbox-carb tube with a new 1 from tytrials will it fit the later frame?

The A and B airbox breathes through two round holes cut in the left side of the airbox
The C and D airbox breathes through a baffled slot in the lid
The boxes are are dimensionally the same but the C and D airbox lid sticks up a bit higher than the A and B lid, and is accomodated by the different seat base on the C and D models
The carby hose connection stub on both types of airbox is in the same place relative to the carby
Both types of airbox take the same cage and filter
The reason why the A model hose from airbox to carby inlet is different is because of minor dimensional differences between the A model TK carby and the BCD models Yamaha-Mikuni carby

I've just read your question again and yes the A model airbox and inner guard will fit the C model frame and yes a new hose from John Cane will work fine if you have a C model carby on it. You may want to use the C model lid and block the holes in the left side of the A model airbox if you want the jetting to be unaffected.

I don't have a C model airbox lid & haven't seen any advertised, A model stuff seems to be more easily found or everyone just lists it as A when they're not sure
