I like the idea of a 185 in a 125 frame.
Deraking the frame is not a big job and I think it would be well worth it. Longer shocks is one way but deraking could take an inch or more out of the wheelbase at teh same time.

In the 70's there was a guy in Wgton, NZ who built a 185 trials bike before he could get hold of an RL250. I seem to remember him saying he used a TS250 ignition. I don't know if he just changed the CDI or used the entire 250 stator and rotor. They should interchange as a TM250 stator and rotor seem to fit my 185 motor ok.

His bike was based on a 73 "K" model and he kept the chrome guards, (even if they weighted a bit) especially the low front one as they just looked "right". I seem to remember he moved the footpegs, gear lever and brake and eventually made a new exhaust for it.

It disapeared when he bought his RL

You're right about deraking the front end shortening the wheelbase, my ty250 has had that done & is about 1 1/2" shorter that standard which means it turns really well but meant the shocks had to be moved forwards to get everything level.
I need to work out where to cut the swing arm to add in 2" to get more weight on the front though as even with a sick motor it's prone to trying to loop
You need to use fairly soft shocks to get good grip, betors from John Cane @ TYtrials are a good starting point & are what I'm running now
The WES rear muffler has no restriction at all, they weigh nothing & from memory a wire passes straight through. Not really sure what the RL centre box is like but the standard ty 1 weighs a ton, the long header pipe is the key to the right power delivery, even the modern bikes have a fairly long 1

Sounds like a very interesting project which I'm sure you'll keep us updated on

Or, if you think the 125 too short in the frame, how about a twofiddy?

Cota 247 frames are a much better size than 123/172 frames if you are a full sized adult
