Spot on Tony T its a 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine built by Bob Tait back in the 60s fitted into a trails type frame which I think he also built. The 2nd photo is the same engine fitted to a racing type frame, for a display at a show last year. Bob sent me these photos plus some others in his last letter and also included copy of an article about this motor published some time ago.
At the moment Bob is well on the way with his newest project a 600cc 2 stroke triple. He is using Dot barrels and heads for the back 2 cylinders, and the front cylinder he is machining himself out of a 7 inch square block of aluminium, so he can have the fins at the right angle to catch the air and keep it cool (this might have been a problem with the first engine). I think the cases have already been cast and are ready to machine, and at the moment he is machining the crank himself, (in his little 2.4 mtr square workshop) ready to have it ground and hardened. The frame that he has decided to build this time is similar to the Dots of the 60s using square tubing for the frame and a Dot leading link front suspension and Dot swing arm.
I had David put the original photos on this forum for me, (being the technology king of the hunter valley) I haven't figured out how to do it yet but when I do I will post the article and the other photos of the new motor etc.
