DC Plastic Repair
« on: August 08, 2010, 10:10:59 AM »
Gday all,

Has anyone out there found a good method of cleaning up DC Plastics?

I fitted a set to my RM400 and now after putting the bike on the track they are scuffed an scratched from my boots.

I have tried wet/dry emery paper 600 grade but the plastic is white in colour underneath???

I have the Novus plastic repair liquid and it works great on my 30yr old tank but it seems to make no difference to the DC plastics.

Can anyone help???

Thanks

Tim

Buy yourself a plastic and metal polishing kit, It comes with a series of buffing wheels and cutting compounds to use on plastics and non ferrous metals.

I bought mine from a site on the net called Molerada. It cost about $100 but is worth every cent. I had a truck side swipe the mirror on my car and marked up the plastic, the polishing kit got it straight out. The tank below is the same tank. I sanded it through the papers down to about a 400 grit then hit it with the kit and below is how it turned out

Hey Peter Rabbit , did you use a bench grinder / polisher to apply polish to the tank after you sanded it down ??
Or do you apply it by hand ??
Do you use anything to keep the finish on the tank after you have polished it with the kit ?? :-\

The polishing kit comes with a series of wheels (called mops) that go on your drill with different levels of aggression from a purely cotton mop to a straw based mop.
I polished the tank probably 8 months ago and haven’t touched it since.
You can get a basic kit from bunnings these days to familiarise yourself

wet & dry sandpaper for a few hours, then JIF for that final shine.

Been there, done that - for a damned site less than $100  ;D
