Steering Head bearings aftermarket
« on: January 08, 2008, 02:08:12 pm »
Anyone used Pyramid Parts bearings before ???.  I can't seem to find any others.  Tried All Balls website, but it says it doesn't make steering head bearings for YZ250H.  Haven't tried Mr Yamaha yet, but I imagine that would be a dead end too.  The old bearing I pulled off the bottom had a neat little skirt around it to stop the dirt getting in and the grease getting out.  The Pyramid parts one doesn't have it as far as I can see (they may just use a generic photo  :-\)
I was going to put this in Yamaha room, but imagine it is a common problem.
Any Ideas ?
TIA

The spelling is slightly different, but that would seem to be the one.  Thanks for the heads up Grasshopper.
do you have a story (that you won't get sued for) that you can tell or should I just take your word for it.  Was it the product or the service or both ?

Mate, just take the old bearing and assembly/seal down to your local Bearing shop, like BSC or CBC. Just about guarantee that they'll have it and for half the cost of ome. Here in Brisvegas we are blessed with a great Bearing Services Center. He found OEM swingarm bearings for my husky in about 3 hours after showing him the rooted ones. Problem was they were in Germany and I had to buy minimum 500..... ;D So he found something similar but better because they had o ring seals on both ends (unlike the originals). Bloody expensive 'though.... I think they were about seven dollars.. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh.. I forgot to add, I always use pyramid parts for my fork seals. They've always turned up in about 5 to 7 days and cost SFA compared to others. I've never bought bearings from him though.. What gives? Fess up???

Thanks FBC.  Sadly, there is a tale of woe in relation to the old bearing.  I was unable to (as Clymer suggest) "gently lever the bearing off with a screw driver".  You have got to be friggin' kidding me.  These must have been the originals 'cause they were TIGHT :(.  As a result the lower bearing no longer resembles a lower bearing :-\.  No amount of (very careful) heating would loosen it, so I ended up having to (very carefully) cut it off.
Is the bearing service centre you use the one at Virginia.  That one's very close the head office of my work that I visit fairly often.

Just did mine on the weekend, same as Andrew above, Link International brand all the bits were there, plus i only paid $39.90, so the $2.10 saving went into the swear jar while i tried to get the old lower bearing off.

Mainline, if it was as tight as mine you are going to need more than $2.10 for the swear jar  ;D ;D
Tried googling Link International and SFA.  Can one of you blokes tell me the name of the shop you bought them from please.  PM if you don't want to advertise.  Local bike shop has closed down, so I'm back to relying on good old Aussie Post.
FYI - the Pyramid Parts equivalent was $57 delivered.
Thanks for the help guys - Link International it is.
Awesome resto by the way Andrew - If I can get mine half as good as that I will be stoked.  Hope to see it (and you) at CD5.

Gudday mate,
Yeah, BSC on Toombul road Northgate. I use the branch at Tingalpa. Really helpful blokes. When I finally get round to rebuilding my WR430 motor I'm gunna try them first for all the bearings. I bet I come up trumps..

Thanks FBC - it's just across the road from head office.  I'll take in a box of bearings and seals from the motor and gearbox and see what they can do for me.
Andrew gave me a contact for the steering head bearings.  Also SKF 32005x and 32006x will do the trick, but I'm not sure the 32006x has the dust seal (terminology ??) so i'm going to go for links international.
