Vale Shell Thuet.
« on: September 02, 2011, 11:22:41 am »
I'm over a month late with this but legendary Yamaha tuner Shell Thuet died on July 11 aged 98.
Many of you have never heard of Shell Thuet but in American dirt track circles Shell was 'the man' amongst tuners. He was the guy who developed the humble XS650 Yamaha into the amazing OW 750 twin engine that created dirt track folklore with riders like Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson. Edgar Phipps in Sydney actually owns a genuine Shell OW 750 works TT bike that had been ridden by Eddie Lawson. It's a beast and a work of art. Read the following obituary and learn about one of motorcycle racings true genius's....http://www.vft.org/Memorial/Shell/ShellThuet.html
'68 Yamaha DT1 enduro, '69 Yamaha 'DT1 from Hell' '69 DT1'Dunger from Hell, '69 Cheney Yamaha 360, 70 Maico 350 (2 off), '68 Hindall Ducati 250, Hindall RT2MX, Hindall YZ250a , Cycle Factory RT2MX flat tracker, Yamaha 1T250J, Maico 250 trials, '71, Boyd and Stellings TM400, Shell OW72,750 Yamaha

Thanks for the post firko. Another loss towards the passing parade of amazing people who loved to make better motorcycles and motorcycles better.
And obviously a much respected friend to a lot of people.
