getting old stickers to stick.
« on: April 16, 2010, 12:31:20 pm »
As a final touch to my upcoming bike I'd like to use some rare, oldschool stickers I've removed from various bikes over the years. Naturally the sticky side doesn't stick any more so does anybody have a good idea for resticking them? I've tried various commercially available glues and silastic but in most cases the sticker ends up bubbling and not adhereing properly.
Over to you Brains Trust. ;)

G`day Firko,
i have in years gone past used a double sided tape that was approx. 2" inches wide and as thin as masking tape, i would try to use some of that and stick it to the back of your old stickers. Otherwise there is the narrower version approx. 10 mm wide double sided tape that is easy to get and also very thin, just means putting it on a strip at a time until the back of the sticker is covered.

                                                                                                                                                                        Peter.

Firko, if they are good quality have them scanned and converted to a Photoshop or Corell file where they can be reproduced using state of the art substrate printing and they will last forever.

Thanks guys.....Rod, I had some stickers reproduce once and they either faded in anything brighter the garage fluro or the ink washed off when I washed the bike. I've been told things have improved a bit since then but that experience made me a bit shy of going the repro route. I'll look into it. Ditto the sticky tape idea.

Firko you know the round Bultaco stickers on the Bulty fuel tanks. I got some repo ones from Peter Schoene. They sit 1.5-2.0 mm high. Sensational quality, dont fade, dont wash off and stick like shit to a blanket. Suggest you ask Peter where he sources them. Maybe they can make some for you. Cheers Jerry

I've used nail polish / varnish to stick edges down. works well but don't know how
it would work on a whole sticker.
It was the wife's polish btw not mine.

I have a 3m product that will put new adhesive on the sticker with backing paper and all, just like it was brand new, exactly what you need mark, drop them over and I will do them all for you.

Thanks Darren...that's the stuff I'd been searching for since I someone mentioned it on some other forgotten forum a couple of years ago. I'll drop you a line, it's a good opportunity to check out the Magoo Bar as well!

Thanks also to the rest of the suggestions fellas....I'll actually try 'em all to see what works and what doesn't. Keep 'em coming.

The product is Scotch 3M 468MP Hi Performance Adhesive and is a little thinner than the 467MP
