Huski,
You are correct that Mk6 triples have less offset than Mk5. (They also have much better clamps for the handlebars). Mk6 & later triples have 34mm offset. I'm not sure what Mk5 & earlier have as I don't have a set handy to measure but I'd think they'd be around 50mm or more.
I don't know for certain what diff/similarity there was between the Mk5 & 6 frames, but I've long tho't they were probably built on the same frame jig (which incidently was probably the same for Mk 7 & 8 also). There doesn't seem to be any major diff like a diff in rake between them.
I have sometimes wondered if the Mk6 used a longer swingarm since Bultaco literature quotes same wheelbase for both models, but Don Newell once told me, when I asked, that he always tho't the swingarms were the same length but he'd never checked.
Perhaps Auscobul could measure the swingarms for you to check if they're same/diff
The Mk5 was known for the front end washing out when cornering, while the MK6 & later were known for sweet handling w better steering. That is precisely the effect you'd expect from reduced offset, cos it brings the front end back effectively putting more weight on it & thereby getting better grip. (Of course it also produces more self-centreing effect so it may feel slightly heavier in the steering, but that can be compensated by using 1" longer shocks)
If I had a Mk5 I'd be using MK6 triples too. In fact thats exactly what I plan on a Mk4 project (which has the same issues as Mk5). Obviously Auscobul has already done it & it works.
Hope this helps
