RM 370 Guru's please
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:26:09 pm »
I'm doing some clean up work on an RM 370 frame and I'm not sure what should be in this area.

Looks like the side stand mount has been ripped off but there is a small bracket welded to the inside of this area that is non original.
Should the frame have a mount for a chain roller etc. or should their be nothing there at all?

Geoff,
All 3 of our 370/400's have had this same part ripped off. It wasn't unusual for the frame to be completely rusted out in this area as water would get between the side stand plate and the frame, rust out which weakn'd the area and the side stand would part way with the frame. The other bracket is a very common mod for the 370 & 400 as chain de-railments and shift shafts worn by the chain were common place. A bracket was installed (as you have noted) to mount a chain roller to assist with both these issues.
Pay particular attention to this area of the frame on both sides as water would pool inside the frame and rust from the inside out. Mainly because the little drain holes in the frame under the footpegs would get blocked.
