Oil Level for 35mm Husky Forks
« on: March 13, 2010, 05:13:13 pm »
Hi.  What oil level are people running in the 35mm Husky spaghetti forks?

My 78 390 AMX manual says to use 240ml volume of oil but that only makes it 200mm oil level from top of forks (compressed, no springs). I am looking for more damping so wonder if its OK to up the level to say 150mm from the top like we do in the 40mm forks. I'm using 20W fork oil.

Also what springs do people use to up the spring rate. Currently it runs a twin spring system. 723mm total length, 145mm x 23 turns x 3.4mm wire short, 578mm x 63 turns x 4.4mm wire long. 28mm OD both. I reckon a stiffer single spring would be fine.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions Dot and Jimg.  I think I need more oil not less so I will give the 150mm a go.  Also discovered the steering head was loose  :o :o - would explain the crap handling and sensation of massive fork flex   ::) ::) I had checked and tightened the damn thing before the ride so I hope its not a recurring problem with these loose ball race units.

If you need more damping, why don't you try same level but heavier weight oil ?  ;)
