1989 cr 250 clutch cover
« on: January 10, 2012, 08:13:04 pm »
I was reading on another forum, a fix for earlier cr 250 (85 to 88)water pump corrosion is to fit a clutch cover from a '89 as these are aluminum and still available. Can anyone confirm that the '89 cover was aluminium ? I had a 500 but those covers where mag.

I dont think that that is correct. I think they are all mag , anyway the later ones are different in that they have a seperate removable clutch cover  and different bits to activate the power valves

I have a 89 250 and have just had to devcon the case. the fact is they all have a percentage of magnesium in them, these have less than the older 84 cases did but due to their age and what we put in them it will always be a problem.

Some of my 84 cases are pretty bad and have used devcon and work well.

No Hooney I read it on vitalmx, the info on cr500riders is a fix for the early 500's, I've been checking out a few different covers for the 250's and it seems the covers changed around the power valve mechanism the same time clutch cover became removable (went from a small 8mm hex head bolt to a large flat screwdriver bolt), question is can the later removable cover be substituted with an earlier model non removable clutch ie fit an '86 cover to an '87 ?

I have friends that race '87 and '88 CR250's. Both have installed '91 CR250 clutch side covers on their bikes.
