PE175 pipe
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:20:57 pm »
I'm looking for a good pipe to suit 1978 PE175C if anyone has one doing nothing. Buy, trade or swap.
Cheers,
K

Big K,

I bought a 78 RM125 pipe for my old gal and cut off the tube at the front (where it attaches to the engine) from both the RM and PE pipes and the welded the section from PE to the RM pipe.  It fits ok and gave the bike more top end: no internal baffles like the PE.

I do have the old PE pipe but it would need a new front section (you can get them currently from that bloke in NZ - search for PE175 on ebay, for $100).

My brother has a PE pipe (see PE250 project bike listing in for sale): we think its a 250 pipe but may be a 175, but this is from a T model (1980).

I have plenty of (6) RM125 pipes but was unsure if it would work OK if I did as you did. If it doesn't affect the bottom power and adds a bit up top, I'll go with that. This is not actually for a PE 175, but a "special" RM125B big bore. Thanks for the info.
Cheers,
K

Yep I know what you mean and I am probably going down that path too with my RM125A roller - dropping in my 175C engine (currenly in the PE frame).  The pipe seems to work well (with straight-thru muffler), and I have also changed the ignition to internal rotor (using a TM125 rotor and RM125A stator) and an RM125 CDI. Then the recommended 34mm carbie, Boyesen reeds and wiseco piston.  And porting as per Graham Bells instructions in the Two Stroke Performance guide.

Mick,
Just remember that if you use a PE pipe, you will have to section it and gut the power robbing elements from inside.
When i did a 80 model PE175 for a mates bike i was surprised to see how much baffling was inside the chamber.
