Hypothetical Holiday
« on: November 26, 2007, 08:12:20 pm »
If an Aussie VMX'r rider was to take some time out & holiday in North America (most likely west coast) with the intention to race an event at the tail end of the holiday, what event would be the best choice?

Following that question, how does a 40+ gumby C grader (at best) go about getting a race license, a loan/hire bike etc, to be able to contest such an event?
Have contacted MA(V) and they seem to be at a loss if it is anything other than a National or FIM event.

I've done just what you want to do Bahnsy and it's really not so hard. I assume you want to ride a vintage event and not a modern so I'll advise on what I have done and reccomend to other travellers.
Check the internet and AHRMA site for websites pertaining to vintage MX in the region you'll be visiting like those below. Send them an email spelling out your plans and asking them if anyone could supply a loaner bike for an event. You'll be surprised at the response you'll get.

Other sites likewww.mccookracing.comare set up by racers for racers and Mike McCook is a personal mate of mine and he could no doubt fix you up with a ride in the Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey area.
Also drop Ron Winget an email, explaining that I reccomended you to speak to him and let him know your plans and needs. He's a big wig within the AHRMA and he may also be able to help you out. [email protected]
Give me some more details of where you are intending to visit and we can get even more specific.
