Even with private health cover the bills were bullshit, but well worth the money when the Blacktown Hospital apprentice orthodedic idiots just said to leave it and it would heal (you had to have to see the original x ray to know that was not going to happen and the specialist was horrified when he saw the fractures)
Poor kid waited three months to race again with an all clear and two laps into the his first race back and BINGf$*#&#g GO !!! - the plate and bone both let go and he was riding smooth as silk at the time. He thought he had just tweaked it because of being out of condition and went and raced again, lol - result was one finished race and extreme pain !!!
This time even more money, bone grafts and all sorts of shit - at least the doctor and anaethetists kids both would have their 08 bikes by now, lol, and as for the rebates you get back they are bullshit!
HOWEVER - and this is important - The public health system, while it admits and probably treats really smashed up people really well doesnt give a flying fig about marginal cases and so you are left to rot. If we had had to pay the 1st HOSPITAL THEATRE costs it was in excess of $8000 (fully covered by medibank Private) !!! and we have never asked about the 2nd visit.
Bottom line - if you can afford it get health cover - or you'll get fondled anyway - by the health system, and by the way Quicky - "Great Tits"
