Yamaha Crankcase Splitter
« on: December 30, 2009, 06:41:54 pm »
I have recently measured up and produced a basic drawing of  the dimensions of a Yamaha Crankcase splitter for another forum that I frequent, and though that there would probably be a few people here who would be interested.

I have had the genuine item since I worked as a mechanic back in the 1980’s and I know it fits all the late 70’s and early 80’s 2 and 4 stroke engines with vertical split crankcases. i suspect that it probably suits all the Yamaha engines from the 1960’s all the way through to the latest models.

And a picture of the real thing so you have an idea of what the drawing is about.

The "bar" on the real splitter is made from forged steel, so I would recommend that the bar on any copy be made from 20mm mild steel as a minimum, or possibly even 25mm.

The two different length bolts, which are high tensile, come with the splitter as the different lengths are required for different engines.

Why do things the easy way, when with a bit of effort you can really make it difficult for yourself!!

I made one these a couple of years ago out of 25mm tool steel (stronger than mild steel) I had trouble finding M8 bolts long enough and found that M8 high tensile all thread bar worked spot on. I used M16 all thread for the center bolt. I used it once and I lent to a mate who now, cant find it amongst the crap in his workshop. >:(............Lesson learnt.
