Fork Oil 83 250 Husky?
« on: September 20, 2009, 02:40:30 pm »
Gents,

Can someone help with the amount and grade of oil to run in the forks of an 83 250. And any thoughts on air too.

Thanks

On my '83 430 i ran 12.5w oil (10 & 15 mixed together) at 130mm from the top of the tube with the fork compressed.

Thanks for that. Also found a book since which said 450ml in each at 15w.

Johnny,

Ran with your recommendation. Use 25 weight oil, 130 from the top of the compress forks, then 5psi of air. Much better than before the rebuild. Just need it out on a track to trial. Way too soft before.

One other thing the little plastic rings which sit in the groove at the top end of the damper rods were really stuffed too. Bent and twisted out of shape. They were replaced. I was told by a husky expert they need continual replacement as the oil softens them.

Hi Pete,
Who owns Husky Parts ??????  I have the  correct oil and correct springs and also modify the top out washer ( black rings) ,but seeing you never call and always ask for info on the forum I guess you will always be taking a punt with incorrect info.DO NOT put ANY amount of  air in the forks at all .If you want to know why ,talk to me at Lake Glenbawn.
Thanks

Now I'll probably get laughed at for this......

With the old style damping rod forks I use a "secret blend"........ 50% 30wt engine oil and any 50% any handy ATF...

It's SO much like 15 wt it's not funny and about half the cost... Adjust the amount to suit. As for air pressure, how do you blokes keep the oil seals in situ/working????

No air, valves are for removing pressure after use.

20wt oil

heavy duty springs

Im pretty sure that bike has been fitted with the upgraded springs , if not call me .
