Who Has A Race Ready YZ125 H 1981

There must be someone on this forum that has a H that they can go out to the shed and kick it into life. If this is you I would love to compare notes on tuning. Seeing that the season is just about over it is time to start getting the bike ready for next year. I will be fitting new aftermarket parts like pipes, power reeds and carburettors to develop more speed. I will be lightening the bike and trying a lot of different things to reduce lap times. All I am after is a small amount of the owners time so we can learn at a faster rate.
The H is quite fast and I feel it can compete against 84 bikes if given the chance.

Save your money and buy an '84, bikes went ahead in leaps and bounds from '81-'84. (sorry, probably not the answer you were looking for)

The fellow selling the cylinder and piston is my VMX travelling buddy.
The engine on my YZ H has been rebuilt and run in at the Nationals.

That is very good advice to all of us.
Okay every one listen up, if you don't have the last year model bike in your class stop spending money on it, give it a clean and take some pictures in a dark shed. Become a VMX novelist and write out the sweetest add that your imagination can come up with. Use phrases like "Best in its class" "Make your mates turn green with envy" and so on. Place all this marketing spenditure in Ebay or Ozvmx classifieds and sell that piece of outmode to the next sucker. Then at least the bike will have made you happy once in its life.
The next step is to scan Ebay or what ever classified's you prefer and pounce on a bike that is the last model in the class. Now you have something that you can spend your money on that does not make you feel like it is just taking up space in the shed.

I will start working on my add today and start looking for a CR125 1984, Maico Mega 2 490 1981 and so on.

Hey Johnny is there any brands that are also off the list for the classes. Should I research all the past world championship bikes and only purchase them. Wow that would mean that Maico's are off the list, I better start working on the add for my MC250 1977.


Does anyone have the Yamaha Wrench Reports for said bike.

that,s a bit over the top ji ? he has a point , u were racing with all those red bikes on sunday ,why do u think those particular people own them ? anyway isn,t what u have one of the best evo 125,s ? are u meaning to ride it up a class ?  these are only point,s i see  , so don,t think i,m taking any shot,s , by the way i did like that massave pipe on the 490k , i,d have responded by saying something like , i wanna beat,em on an evo bike !!!

whoops just realised the h was the first lickycool , and it,s out of evo , should pay more attention to small bore,s ,  so u have to do it to them , i got one of those oval slide type carbs in bits , if it helps it,s yours ,now what else can be done ,  i was thinking of a kx disc but the weight will bring it down ,so it,s tls , think i have a shock for a 125h , will check when i get a moment   ,get it out and wring it,s neck and get it jetted , also as much as i,d like, a 490 isn,t a 2nd gear starter , their too low in top  too high in 1st so if u gear it to pull 2nd gear starts it will run out of legs in top  , if u gear it too high in top to get high speed u,ll start stalling in 1st on a tight track ( like i do a bit  when my hands stop working )

Hi Ims,
I spoke to the fast red riders on Sunday and they told me some very interesting things about their 84's
First they believed that the 84 was the first year with a power valve. First Gen ah does it work? I asked "Nah it fouls all the time so I took it out" Cool looking front disc brakes how good are they "Great but I never use them" How does your shocks go over the G out gullies "The bike bottoms out every time"

These bikes don't sound superior to any other brand to me.

I like my 490 but it has been quite a learning curve. I only just figured out how to corner on it last weekend at Cooroy.

I read on another thread that you finally got your tuning worked out.  So are you willing to share or is it going to be a secret .  Was it the jetting above that you ended up and and what fuel mix do you use ??

I just like the H, it was all white, didn't have red radiator shrouds flapping about and really another decent looking YZ didn't happen until the T models. Maybe I just like my YZs white, apparently given how fast the yellow ones sell I am not alone.
