DT175 Problems
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:49:40 pm »
Hi. Have been a lurker and now its time for me to ask for help.

I have a DT175 (1976 model) that has been sitting for 7 years. I have decided to get it going again, but, for the life of me I just cant get this thing to fire. It has good spark. I have put a kit through the carbie. Fresh fuel, filter and plug. All road gear and wiring has been removed.

Does anyone have any idea's? It is driving me crazy  ???

Aerostart or "start ya bastard" if that don't work maybe top end needs a look.Compression and or leak down test first.

Is the flywheel properly secured on the crank? The DT250s tended to shear the woodruff key if they back-fired on start-up.
You'd still get good spark, but with the timing being where-ever it wanted, the bike would never start (but probably fold your foot in half if you kept trying).

What's the condition of the ignition points?

I assume the compression is still good?

Do you live in the ACT? Have Stanza? Or are you a different BigRed?

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
