How much to pay for a 1981 yz465h

Hello, just wondering a friend has a yz465h, was going, but it stalled when I was riding it then didn't start back up, felt like a slight seize. Now has low compression. Rode very well when it was going, it's in average condition, mostly original, would need a full resto. What would be a good price to offer him?

i,ve seen one in boxes and rough for $800  , and what about that restored one on ebay , $8000   , they seem to get a good price , i myself would pay up to $1800 for what u describe if it runs at all , check forks and shock shaft  , big end if u can

Thanks, it didn't start back up, it would need a rebuild anyway, probably got original guts in the motor. Suspension seemed fine, not that I would know if it had a problem. I'm thinking of getting it for under $1000

For costing you may be interested to read this one...
Back when I was looking for a steed an ad for an '81 YZ 465 caught my eye.
I enquired by e-mail and here's the answer:

The bike is new never started, it is probably suited more to a collector although the new owner obviously will do as they wish. I am asking for offers of over $12.5k which is well under market value.(its in my way).

I paid $700 (it was a crappy runner) $3200 to get it done, sold for $4500

The new yz465h is in Canberra and I have seen it very nice and yes $12500.

It was advertised in a local paper like the trading post.

He wouldn't let me take pictures of it also and he had a smick it250j as well like new. Its in one of the last ADB's in firko's column.

Sorry Paul, no photos; it was a 'new in the box and never started' sort of thing.
I didn't follow through as the price was out of my league.
I'm pretty sure I found the ad on the NZ 'Livewire' page back in August.
