Ari Vatanen Peugeot 405 - Pikes peak 1988 is still my favourite motorsport video. there are a few version but the original "climb dance" made by peugeot and that one many awards at thetime is stil the best, ( could do with losing the first min though) but it has the raw sounds of that motor wound and the breathtaking shots off the shear drop near the top.  Pure Porn !

I keep hoping someone is going to put the bikes up but they seem few and far between, although they get a lot of bike runs, even sidecars, infact unless im wrong for all the money put by teams like BMw etc the old triumphs and yam's and the like put them to shame and took 3rd and down this year ?

still great vintage video  ;D    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TKgeCQGu_ug

mmm..that is a sweet vid Freaky..what I found even more amazing is the 1985 Pikes Peak and a super fast female named Michelle Mouton who flogged everyone in an all wheel drive Audi :o

One of my rally mates has a daughter named Michelle, and a son named Ari - no kidding. :)

The 405 that Ari drive was basically a re-bodied Gp-B 205, after Gp-B was outlawed*. The end of Gp-B was also a big part of the reason Peugoet got involved in the Paris-Dakar - gotta use the investment somehow.

*It was a ridiculously dangerous category. When it claims the lives of spectacularly talented drivers like Henri Toivinen (sp? my brian no-worky), it is hard to justify.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Not bad but dig up anything of the Nordschleife or the completely insane old Nurburgring. Sabine Schmitt can lap in just on 7 mins. There is bound to be a you tube video of a Porsche 956 going round there to.
For Rally action I had an old Wide World of Sport montage on VHS that had plenty from a famous stage in Portugal(help me out here Nath?) where there is an old Celica/Escort flat knacker along the road with the tanked up spectators parting just metres from the bonnet. The crazy part about it is it goes on for 5 or 6 km :o
No wonder Gr B was banned an RS 200 has a 0-100 figure of 3.8sec or something equally wicked.

Lozza anyone who has seen the old Nurburgring would agree 10 minutes a lap isn't too bad!..to do it in 7 minutes is astonishing!  :o I know this is not reality but the 1966 grand prix simulation I have has this track and all the physics built in, I be buggered if I can get in one hot lap to qualify anywhere except last and I have tried over and over. My race performance is even worse yet at tracks like Donnington, Monza and Zandvoort I can equal or better the real lap times posted although I have never won a full 80 lap GP. Kids stuff maybe but they give a good insight into the actual tracks and cambers and off cambers and so on. I have also seen a vid of a Porsche at the 'ring and it was amazing to watch knowing what is around the next turn and the speeds they approach at  :o There is another vid of a guy who drives you thru every bit and explains just where you should be positioned on the track if you wish to live past the next turn ;)

Did anyone see the Top Gear episode with Sabine Schmitt do a 10.08 at the Nurburgring in a deisel Transit Van? Here it is...Astonishing.

Doc,
The Nordschleife is something very dear to my heart. After spending a wonderful Saturday there in 02, I can say that a lap on GT4 is VERY close.
The best way to descibe it is Mt Panorama X 3, with a boom gate and $20 for a lap. NO RESTRICTIONS 'cept for noise.Sabine's* 500hp Beemer is booked out a full 18 months in advance, let me tell you punters get out of that fairly white. wobbly legged and pretty quiet.
I took the Volvo hire car around, got a lap with Simon the Pom in his Lotus Elise and the crowning glory was 'Frank' a Mercedes salesman in a Opel wagon.Suffice to say he was seroiusly quick(11min) we were only passed by a Porsche GT3 and a Ducati 916.Frank would slam the anchors on 70m from a corner from 220k's turn in, floor it ride the inside kerb and let it drift out to the outside kerb for a full 20km.All the while giving me a running commenatry of the corners and points of interest in English. ;D ;D
Very abridged version, as I could burn all the available bandwidth crapping on about the things I saw and did that day.

* Sabine is HOT and owns a pub ;D ;D
