Bairnsdale MX Track
« on: September 20, 2009, 07:11:47 pm »
Does anyone remember the Bairnsdale track. I think it was in an old quarry adjacent to the fruit fly inspection station on the south side of the Princess Higway just out of town. Is it still there? Is it still used? I can't find it on Google. Jerry

I could be one eyed but it was one of the best track I have ever rode on, I started my race career as a 15 year old there on my TC100 Suzuki with high and low range. As a young dreamer and Bairnsdale local I  watched the Flood Brothers dominate the victorian opens there. There use to be huge crowds and they all sat around the hill as you could see 90% of the track form there. The track is still there and grassed over and the owner is luke warm to a one off VMX meet.  HL

I remember the Bairnsdale Track very well. It certainly was one of the best MX tracks I've ridden on, rode there when the Floods, Pengelly's, Kramer & ML (Mike Landman) were at their peak. It was a very unique place, natural ampitheatre. I remember seeing Trevor Flood rip the place to pieces on a I think, either a 360 or 390 Husky. I was a C grader then, riding an AW Maico, great memories. Me old dad luckily enough took some 8mm of that day, I've had it put onto Video & if I can find it, I'll get it put onto DVD.

Hi Ken a C grader,  HMMMM I must of been in the same race I would have been riding a YZ250a back then. I think Treveort Flood was on a 360 and the way he came onto the main straight was frightening, and if you get it on a DVD you should post it on the website.  HL

I never went to that track but I do remember seeing Floody on the Husky at Marysville track. It was a 360 .,would have been 76.Landman had a OW which he didnt like.Anyways seems Floody changed bikes every couple of months back then .Everytime that I saw him ride he was on a different make. :)
