New about a month back
« on: October 10, 2007, 03:44:51 pm »
Forgot to do this last month..like registering your computer.. Anyway, I am James Sharp aka Maicojames from the USA. I live in N Texas just south of Fort Worth. Being on the younger side of VMXers at 39 I rode first in 77 on a TY80. 1st bike was a sickly trick 74 XR75 Honda, fork kit, long swingarm, Inter-Am bars, Poweroll cam, had no idea how trick it was-then YZ80F in 1981. I had various 250 mx ers in the 80s. I found VMX in 91 with the Texas Vintage Racing Club, rode a  135  Pursang, then a 74 KTM 250-back to modern -then built my dream Maico-77 AW440 while living in Arizona. Had to sell it last month. I now have a 76 RM250A which I call the ego-adjuster-reminding me that I do not earn half of what I did in Az when I built my Maico ;D ;D

Thanks to everyone here, this is an outstanding forum-I especially enjoy the resto tips, and tech.

Thank you,
James

do you help with shipping in the US ?  that question would be on most our lips.   Bike transport seems to be a black art over there ranging from $300 to $600 in those speacialised semi things.  what the inside scoop on land transport ?

You've got to be kidding Freaky! The question sure as shit ain't on my lips so speak for yourself. What would James have to do with shipping? He's just a regular guy enjoying the forum like the rest of us, the only difference being that he happens to live in the USA.  You've bypassed anything the bloke had to say in his post and jumped right in and assumed that he's a shipping agent ready to serve your every need.
Shipping from America is as easy as shit, not a black art at all if you took the time to suss it out.

Hey James - we've already 'met' but welcome to OZ just the same, lol!

If ever you want a place to stay over here count me in, and don't mind Freaky  ??? - he'll eventually realise that anything can be achieved with research and application, oh and dollars - perhaps he can try the mainstay Forward Air which can crate and ship bikes to any major port in the US.

I have found most US sellers guys only too willing helpful to ship stuff without having to hassle individuals such as yourself.

If it's too much hassle Freaky - leave your $$$'s in the sky rocket!

What would be cool is if you give us your take on the VMX scene in the US!

Cheers mate, Dave

I don't know shit(shite?) about being a shipping agent, but would be glad to help if someone needs something, say from one of those nimrods who won't ship outside USA.
As far as the 500-600, I think that is often to get to a port in Long Beach( Los Angeles) California. As far as shipping agents, you may want to speak with Firko or Dave Mac, as I know they have shipped many bikes/parts. If you just have a part, but need to get it, I will help-in fact I beleive I indicated as much on here earlier. I guess I could bid for you or could have it shipped to me and I send to you( shit that has got to add up$ for you), but will try to help.

I think my e-mail link works from here, so let me know. Wonder how much a flight to Oz is from here?

James

I reckon you should hop in a container, maybe in a boot (trunk)of a car. Just remember to punch a few holes in the boot(trunk ::)) so you can breath. you know like those insects you use to put in a jar! Can you check your email address as i tried to send you one and it bounced back about a week ago. Cheers, Brad

That's so cheap. When I first went to the USA in 1975 the air fare was $1350 AU. So in 35 years the fare has only gone up $150. Air fares are the best deal in travel. I flew to Adelaide last year for $100 and flew fron Sanfrancisco to LA (1 hour) for $10. Compare that to the price of petrol.

If you are driving the Jag, piss on the oil leak, make sure to used some Castrol R-but just drive it.  Dad had a 66 XKE, bought a wrecked D-type engine etc etc-ended up selling but tons of fun rides in it as a kiddo. $1500 or so makes it tough -but maybe doable in the future. My e-mail is good-just got one from a member here.  Brad, Paul has linked direct to my e-mail, so maybe Paul could paste the addy in a PM to you?

Thanks, James

um when did i say he had anything to do with shipping ? as he was a local he might know a better way of moving things round the states, thats what im interested in how things get moved around the country.  Ive sussed it out many ways, but there is always a better way.
