1980s Showa 43c forks
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:46:54 pm »
I have a set of  disc braked forks which I want to upgrade with cartridge emulators. If I knew the year then I'd know which emulator to buy. I'm pretty certain they are off an XR500/600 but beyond that....
Anyone help?

Just had a close look and they have air caps and rubber covers over bottom of leg damping adjusters. does that help?

if they have comp damp adj , would u still want the cartridge emulators ? wouldn,t u be able to dial them in pretty close to get the best ? or would the emulators give a better rebound ?

After trawling the web I've pretty much decided that they are 88 to 90 XR600 items
They are non cartridge and have rebound adjusters.
To my way of thinking whether they have adjusters or not, any setting is still going to be a compromise between low speed damping and high speed spiking
As far as I understand it emulators are controlled progressive pressure relief valves that allow decent damping without hydraulic lock on hard high speed impacts. I have set on some 38mm forks and am happy with them. I don't have any experience with these 43s though so I'm not certain that they'll make the same difference

You sure about this Wasp?
The Race Tech website lists the 88/90 fork for use with FEGV 4321. This fork is non cartridge and different from the later fork, which Race Tech don't list for. Well they list it but not for emulators.
