G'day from a DT vacuum

Hello to all you guys and girls here wether you're a rider,racer,builder,or spectator,looking forward to sharing info/ideas,getting info for upcoming vmx races,maybe even meeting up with some of you at these events.At the moment I'm into restoring older models,and for some unknown reason I've got too bloody many DTs for resto work.Don't know how I've gotten myself into this model.Bikes I own,some resto'd some not are;Yamahas: 1983 IT490 big balls for this beast just raw power.The dreaded DTs, 1972 DT250A, 1972 DT100, 1976? DT100, LT2 100 (got this bike given to me,owner was going to take it to the tip,is really rough,missing,tank and cosmetics,never seen one like it before,thought it was a either a DT or CT100,took a week to identify it.After searching the net,the bike,and picking peoples brains guess what?The bloody engine number starts off with the id for the bike: LT2,duh!!). Hondas: 1988 CR500,bigger balls for this monster although power is more refined than the 490, 1973 MR50 (this bike given to me as owner found out I was into playing with bikes, said it was taking up space and his kids had outgrown it), 1981 XL250S,great old chugger. Suzuki 1984 TS 250,(for a trail bike this bike goes really well,blows me away how it loves to climb gnarly hills,and handle the rough stuff).Yamoto 200.Why?Bought it off a friends son for $200 to stop him from commiting suicide,he's never learnt to ride,and wanted to ride it on the road. Got a new engine,and goes extremely well,but handles like a bush pig with its nuts banded.Finally,a Husqvarna CR125 1972 vintage(first year of the 125 Huskies).This has been a nightmare to restore,costwise as well getting parts.Sometimes trying to restore a 1st year of production build model,isn't such a good idea.Bought it way back in 1994 as a rolling wreck for $800,and only recently decided to finish this project off,still got a fair bit to do in tidying up.Well people thats all for now,looking forward to this forum and perhaps we'll meet up somewhere out on the track,or maybe even the pub! Don't you be lettin anyone taken the little Husqvarna CR125 1972 vintage(first year of the 125 Huskies) from you ,real classic   :o

g'day husk72, sounds like you have a few hotties suitable for dirt track! just be aware of the dreaded rider-dumping habits of the DT series yamahas.... famous for dumping riders on slow corners as well as a few sore legs by courtesy of the starting mechanism. cheers wally.

wally is talking about early dt/rt if you have a dt250a they have the same frame as the mx250A 1973/1974just with more stuff welded on them,so if you stripped the dt frame and welded all the mx stuff on the only way to tell the differencs is the frame no and the swing arm footpeg holes

Thanks for the welcome, VMX and Wally.Thanks VMX for the heads up on the Husky about not letting it go.Kinda with all the struggles I've had trying to get it together,I was ready to sell it and move on when it was completed.The DT I own has recently had the top end re-done,and have yet to ride it.Experienced the kick starter bite first time I tried to kick it over.Also,thanks Wally and Jim for the tips on riding it,bit apprehensive about riding it hard now.The tid bit of info about stripping the frame excess is something I never thought of, but will now trim off.

really depends on your age  :P on the 125 and if you want to admire it from a far or closeup...and keep it for your kids/grand kids  ;D
I'm a hoarder and pre75 silly, so I really shouldn't comment on you keeping it...but its a nice classic piece  8)
