pre 75 bikes in pre 78 class

Hi all.   I have a dumb question can you enter a pre 1975 bike in a pre 1978 class ? dont want to go to QLD and only ride one class over 3 days   HL

if you only have one bike you are in
trouble you cant ride up a class if you are
entered in a lower year class
you need to borrow another bike

Thats not entirely true you can ride  a pre 75 bike in EVO and Pre 85 Just not in pre 78 that class is dezined just for the first of the long travel shocks. You could ride a pre 60 or 65 bike in evo and Pre 85 too.

there is only a restriction in riding up into the pre 78 class, Fat boy is correct you can ride a pre 75 in Evo, pre 85 if you want. There is no section in the book that restricts that but there has been an incorrect interpretation of the rules by some.

The pre78 class is Only available to 75,76,77 model bikes or acceptable follow on models.

hmmm..this can only be good news I'd reckon and so long as the bikes riding up a class aren't displacing bikes of the genuine era. It'll help fill grids and have more ride time available for those who wish to do so. I was always under the impression you could not ride up a class in VMX as I'm sure many others thought so this is a turn up for the books so to speak

You can't ride up a capacity class at National level, as the capacity classes are defined as "263cc and up", and "126 to 250cc", etc.

Yeah, those exact figures are at least partly incorrect, but you get the point.

uh huh, I was thinking along the lines of 'up a class' being era, ala CR125M in 125 Evo or an RM250A in 250 Evo I worded it incorrectly sorry. Just as well I have nothing to do with the rule book or confusion would reign supreme

hi all,

lets keep it simple, as per the GCR's for this National Title and in line with keeping the sport true to all classes, just like pre 75, the Nationals is and should allways be one bike, one class. We are show casing our sport and era's of bikes foremost. what has happened in the past DOES not make it gosple and those competing should respect this! Its not about how many rides your getting for your money, it's about competing at a National level for your class and era, please dont try and water it down to a weekend event and compare the Nationals to CD6.

Hi Dave, I understand the pre 78 rule allowing only 75,76,77 bikes, but what if you have a bitsa of a bike made up of pre 75 and pre 78 parts  This would be ineligible in pre 75 but surely you could enter it in pre 78?  Can you provide a definative answer to this one?

that's a darn good question as my '75 TM with the RM125S motor may not be eligable either due to it being based on the TM
