i'm on the green team
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:27:55 am »
hi all, been looking at the forum for a while now and thought i had better get involved. went to cd5 last year & had a great weekend even without a bike. am now gearing up for cd6 along with a couple of mates who are finishing of projects. i got lucky, "aquired" my brother"s 76 kx 400, it"s in great condition only having done limited short circuit work and some road racing days at oran park before being stored for about 25 years. (will try to post a pic) anyway the forum is a great source of info keep up the good work. getting rsi now, better have a rest......motormouse.

Nice looking resto. It looks close to being finished, just a little more detail. The KX of the period was the best looking KX and one of the best looking Jap MZ'ers. There are a surprising few 400 and 450's still around.

Welcome abroad 8).

thanks for the welcome mx250, this is how the bike came to me, other brother painted tank with pressure pack and fitted tyres to do local dirt track but his wife put the brakes on that idea so i offered to give the bike a good home...and i dont think it wants to go back. ;D

Welcome Motormouse. I'm a newbie here as well and I'm enjoying it and reckon you will too. You're a lucky barstard getting a bike in such great nick ;D. I raced a KX400 the same model back in 1976/1977 and have only good memories of it except for the lack of parts backup back then. I wouldn't doubt that it'd be easier to find bits today though. ::) I reckon twin shock KXs are not only amongst the prettiest Japanes bikes of the era as Graeme says, I also reckon they were the first Japanese bike that felt European to ride. It's hard to single out the reason, it's just that they felt unlike the Elsinores, MX360 and DT1MX I'd previously raced. I went to Huskys after that and the transition was smother than I'd ever hoped for because the bikes felt like they came from the same mother! Good luck with the rest of the resto and keep us updated on it's progress. There aren't too many other Kwaka owners here so it'll be great to see it at CD6 and other events.

thanks oggy, i do consider myself a lucky barstard. i forgot to mention i have all the plastics, off at the moment being cleaned up. i have had a five minute ride in a mates back paddock and it still seems to go as good as i remember all those years ago. cant wait for cd6.

hey alison, central west nsw, thanks for the welcome.....condo was one of the pioneer vmx clubs but went a bit quiet for a while. vmx interest seems to be building so things can only get better.
