Setting points on XL250 K1
« on: March 16, 2009, 05:18:23 pm »
Well it seems I'm a failure as a mechanic.  Oh woe is me.  :'(
How can you get a reading from a Multi Meter as to when the points open or close??? I'm just running the bare miniumum ignition wires with no battery etc. I would have thought an earth to the engine and a positive to the contact spring would show some sort of resistance or some such, even hooked up a powered globe the same way and it just stays on. ???
WTF am I doing wrong? with the contact assembly out of the head it all works fine but put it back and no go. The bike starts and runs OK so things are working.
All I remember from the old days with a battery in the system was sticking a transistor radio next to it and listening for the crack. ::) and I time the Z with the dwell function (going strictly by the book, probably without really knowing what I'm doing.  ;D)
Help a fool please!
