TS/TM 125 hybrid

I am going to build a hybrid engine for my road legal 1972 TS125t.

I will be using the NOS crankcase I have in the attis and want to fit a TM barrel, head and carb to it (chamber to follow at a later stage)

What is involved it this conversion?

Any tricks or specific parts to use?

I assume it has been done before.....

I have a NOS unused standard bore barrel and head but I dont want to go messing with them.

To fit the barrel all you have to change is one stud, replace the long stud on the exhaust outlet side of the crankase to the TM short one and away you go.

Check out the parts diagrams and numbers on this site it will be VERY helpful...

Looks good, thanks.

Do I need to shave 5mm of the bottom of the piston if it as a TS125 piston? Or is it better to use a TM125 piston and just whack it all together? Will the TS crank and rod keep up or will it fail due to the higher power and revs?

TS crank and rod are the same as TM, use TM pistons and pipe/carb for normal TM operation. TS has lower first and second gears which will compensate for lack of low end power from TM cylinder but has taller top gear so it should fly and not look too much different than a stock TS  ;D. I recommend the Circle-F TM pipe, it's a bolt on fit & repackable and easier to get than a tidy OEM TM one.

Thanks for that CG, you truely are a knower of all things great...

I can get about 70mph out of the old bus at the moment which is about what the factory claimed ( i have gone to 16/50 instead of 15/50 gearing and it will still pull hard untill i chicken out at about 8,000 rpm....)

If I spin the new big block engine to the claimed 10,000 it will be a rocket ship!!!! - wont last long though.....

Regarding the TS / TM piston question, whats the go here?
