'74 XL250 Air filter indentification help needed.
« on: February 26, 2009, 02:56:03 pm »
Can anyone identify this air cleaner element?

It was bought (and labelled as) an XL250 '72-'73 foam. Well it certainly isn't anything like the one in my K1. :-\ mine i squarish with oval entry tapering back to a seam.
So could this be for K0...were they different to K1. Uni Filter only had this and one for a '76 XL250.
Maybe this an American thing and their '76 is our '74???....

Help! (and no, I don't want to use a pod   :))

Hmmmm.... I'm guessing the K1 air cleaner isn't the same as K0 then? 'cos that little sucker don't fit over this cage?
Catalogue has it to fit 72-73 build dates.

It's the correct Uni-Filter number, if you really think it's too small then maybe they packaged it wrong, but it's proabably worth taking it out of the packet & seeing if it stretches to fit first.

has it got a spring in the middle? what you do is get rid of the whole std air cleaner and cage and run that foam one in the stock air box. i have heard other people use this unifilter in the 72 XL 250 and it was a lot better breathing than the std one.

you dont put that unifilter on the stock cage.

Thanks again!
GMC, yep I've had it out and given it a stretch.....though the wife told me to put it away again. ;D

LWC, No spring inside, but I thinking the same as what your saying last night, that is doing away with the standard cage and fitting it that way.
I thought these things were usually made to simply replace the standard filter element.....though I guess not. ::)
