My friend was a Maico dealer and installed many Maico decompression releases to other brands of Dirt Bikes. Mainly water cooled Honda CR500. Maico had 2 styles 14mm (1982 and older) and 18mm 1983 and newer. The 18 is a better choice, easier to kick start. I have attached a photo of the 18mm. These are still available in the USA.

In relation to the maico decompressor ,the stroke or maximum opening position is adjustable.

You must remove the decompressor from the cylinder and the cable from the device to do so .

So if you adjust it  you can regulate release.

As a secondary issue , Husky imports were at one stage fitting a vaccuum operated decompressor to the watercooled 360's that had very high compression and were very difficult to kickstart.

Decompressor was located in the head.

We have ordered a couple of the decompressor modules and we are going to give a try.

Shoey, The decomps that Hans was using are straight off a lawnmower...be very careful as the "bulb" which contains the diaphragm comes loose and the circlip that holds the "valve" will come off and let the valve fall into the cylinder..with the obvious consequences...so don't let Stefan sell you an inflated price one for a 360 when the lawnmower will do...oh..and you must use the inlet manifold for a source of vacuum

Also on the French site I was browsing , was an image of some decompressers used on Harleys (?) . Once again I could not understand in the translation what they were talking about , but it appears as if they might be a manual push down / pull up on the blue button ( with no cable attached ?) when starting.

Thanks for the advise on the decomp unit.

We were aware of the vaccumm point , but we were not aware of the fragile nature of the decomp. device

I will check it out.

Based on that info I may use the Maico decomp's i have and fit them in the same position as the on the Maico's.

  i just wind it over till tdc then let her up and bang every time (choke when cold but)  and here is a free tip dont try this in double pluggers kids
