lots of PE's had the sidestands removed and the brackets hacked off. my Z i reckon  was raced as well in reliabilty trials like the 24 hour trial i SA as it had the electrics modified and a big light fitted for night racing and was changed to 12 volts etc. it also had a tool bag and DR tool canister mounted.

some people have said the T models were less popular than X models as people took a while to adjust to the sight of blue stickers.

the easiet way to tell (if it hasnt got original decals) if its a Z model is to quote frame number to a suzuki dealer to be 100% sure. it could have the manufacture date of 11/81 for example and be a 82 model. i think mine was made early 82, i cant remember.

Mine was missing a few little peices like chain guard one of if you could make a dg replica that would look great the one in the manual looks to be 175 78 or 79 it has different guards and the dg swingarm looks trick any idea if i could get a hold of that mx lighter headlight cover

i will check all the ones i see now my dads mate had them new and i bet he still knows were to get some i will ask him if he knows anything about the Z's i like the look of the Z's more than the X's of course i like the look of the t's because i have one but they all look good

oh yeah mine would just be be my own trick modified version for racing and would be aiming to build something exact as DG becase i dont think they actually officially made T/X DG modifed PE's, but you could just go and buy all the goodies your self and piece together a trick looking bike. As its a later model so i dont need the DG swing arm as the stock one is fine. They were only for the 78/79 models. those swing arms are extremly rare. i dont know anyone with one and have never seen one apart from in pictures.

i dont know what state your in but not all states in Australia got Z model 250/400 soem state dealers will not even have them on their records.

one more thing, another easy way to tell its a Z is to look for folding tip brake pedal. dont go by gear lever as any one can fit a folding tip lever from a RM or something and after 25 years who knows whats been changed so you can be fooled if you go by that. mine still had original folding tip gear lever. its highly unlikely that someone would have gone out and fitted a Z model brake pedal to a X unless they bent one and went to order a new one and were supplies with the Z pedal which may of superceeded the X pedal. its very likely tht the brake pedal fitted to a old PE is still original if its one of the ones thats been sitting in a shed for 15 years.

what are the shocks it has are they fox airshocks they're worth a pretty penny now

Ok Leith  mine has the original brake lever as its usually something you dont need to change because of it not having splines like the gear lever

ohhh more questions No DG head made for 400. possibly could get special ordered ones for 250's??. ive seen one on RM 250 T. havent seen any in DG catalogues but that doesnt mean they were not made as ive seen DG ads for head for CR 480, YZ 490 and RM 500 but they are not listed in DG catalogues. i have one for the 250 though

best chance for aftermarket head for PE 400 would be to find one off a big bore bike with same stud pattern and then modify/improve dome to suit. you might be able to find a Webco or FMF head, they made some heads for big bore bikes.

the shocks on DG PE were aftermarket KYB air shock. possibly you could have got Works Performance too but i think the KYB air shox is what they mainly sold. they were annodized gold. they are OK but not as good as dual air chamber fox airshoxs. i have plenty of fox airs and ohlins for my bikes.

Are you planning to restore that do you ride it much unlike mine the rear fender and all is still intact my dad through away the headlight shroud and it took me a while before i could find one heres mine thanks Michael.

I got this picture today in a magazine from france. It’s from an article on a  modified PE 250T done in early 1981 as the magazines project bike by the looks of it .I could pretty much build one very similar but without the Simons forks.



And this is a PE 175 kitted out with gear from DG.

cool photos leith the guy does look a bit like chewbacca with a face shave but i guess that was the style of the time
