Disc Brake Machining

Hi lads,

Does anyone know of a business that does disc brake machining?
I've used a bloke in QLD a couple of years ago, but he seems to have disappeared.
Any ideas - preferably in Sydney?

There are some places in Victoria......but be sure to get a VERY firm quote. What is the disc solid or a floater? Floating disc rotor can be taken off the carrier and surface ground, if it's solid anyone with a lathe could machine it

had one done by Planet Disc's in Wantirna (melbourne ) 10 years ago, thats all they did so specialised in that work , not sure if they are still in business.

Its a solid Brembo disc, someone should be able to do it easy enough.

Warringah brake an clutch in Brookvale should be able to do it,
or
I have a lathe ,
what is the problem with the disc is it grooved or warped,
can you post a pic so I can see if I can mount it on my chuck?

Hi Noel,
They are just a little grooved from the brake pads.
Less than a millimetre on each disc should do it.
Here's a photo of the front wheel. The disc is completely flat.

You have holes in it , that will make it hard , otherwise straight discs we can do . The trick is to have a tool turing on both sides at the same time to avoid chattering. But with holes i am not sure . Perhaps grinding is a better option now.

I have an article here somewhere were a bloke machined discs at home no problems.He just made a holder/mandrel.Being iron they could easily be ground on a surface grinder and a magnetic table.Send me a pm with your email if you want to have a look at the article.

the holes may be an issue,
when you say the disc's are flat does that mean that they unbolt from the carrier and therefore do not have a solid bore to hang onto, ??
are they reversable on the carriers?

 Any machinist should be able to do cut them for you like Noel said. I have cut car and bike rotors on my
lathe for many years.
